Wedding Industry Copywriter

I work with the Anna Wintours of the wedding world.

The decision-makers. The needle movers. The ones who get shit done.

Hi, I’m Emily. I write copy for wedding pros who don’t give a fuck what anyone thinks of them.

Okay, obviously I’m exaggerating a little...we all have our moments. But really – I work with people who aren’t afraid to show couples exactly who they are. Maybe you curse like a sailor (guilty!), have no filter, or go into every meeting with a “no-BS” attitude.

You’re not in the business of making every couple you meet want to book with you because let’s be honest: you DON’T want to work with every couple. And that’s okay.

No matter who you are, one thing’s true: you make the impossible possible for your couples. You help them navigate all the headache-inducing parts of getting a wedding from vision board to real life. You offer advice, solve problems, and make sure that on their big day, they don’t have a care in the world. And get this – you do all of that and get to go home to your family at a reasonable hour every day. You’re not overbooking yourself or spending all of your free time scrolling IG for new leads. They come to you. You’ve made more money than you know what to do with and you’ve got time to spare. You’re a goddamn superhero.

This is the dream, right?

Those couples are out there right now, and if they knew you – like really knew you – you’d already be living the dream.

But you’ve gotta catch their interest first.

You’re running a business in the wedding industry. It’s cutthroat and competitive. You live for the feeling you get when your couples gush about your work, but the rest of the time, you’re:

  • Answering inquiries from vendor database sites just to be ghosted.

  • Trying to come up with content ideas for next month in between all of your other responsibilities.

  • Trying (and maybe failing?) to teach yourself SEO without ripping your hair out.

  • Answering the same questions over and over in your inbox.

  • Yearning for more time to do what you love and less time to spend on figuring out what the hell you really want to say.

  • Explaining to your clients yet again that no, they really can’t DIY it and achieve the same results.

Strong copywriting that actually sounds like you can solve all of those problems. Every. Single. One.

“For a while, my husband and I wanted to update our wedding videography website.

I had been mainly focused on updating the designs and thinking from a visual standpoint, but know how important copy is. We kept getting stuck when trying to write our own copy so we decided hiring a copywriter would be extremely helpful for us. Emily was great to work with, she took the time to listen and understand our needs and worked with us to get the copy to a place we were all happy with. Our experience was really positive and helped ease stress so we can focus on other tasks!”

I know what your couples are struggling with because I’ve been there before.

I’ve been writing for the wedding industry since 2020. In 2022, I got married myself, and holy hell did I learn a lot!

It’s hard freakin’ work planning and executing a wedding. I’ve been through the ups and downs, the knowns and unknowns, the moments where I cried tears of joy, and the ones where the tears weren’t so happy.

(Sadly, I was that bride who didn’t hire a wedding planner because I thought I didn’t need one. Boy did I fuck that one up.)

But my understanding of the wedding industry goes far beyond my own experience. I eat, sleep, and breathe weddings. Working exclusively with the wedding industry has helped me truly understand the ins and outs of how weddings work.

I’ve combined my experience as a bride with my knowledge of the industry to help wedding pros make real connections with their couples before they even meet.

I work with the Anna Wintours of the wedding world. The decision-makers. The needle movers. The ones who get shit done.

I get to write about incredible, real wedding pros and their businesses. Instead of creating dream worlds, I get to help make their career dreams come true.

Oh, and I help them make money. Think we might get along?

What Matters To Me

One size never fits all.

You will never see me handing out or using plug-and-play templates for copy. Ever. Are there key messaging points everyone needs to hit to write great copy? Absolutely. But I don’t believe in copy-and-paste methods for writing your messaging. Each project I take on is a brand new unique experience with endless possibilities, and I treat it as such. I believe when you take away that crutch and let your creativity lead the way, magic happens.

Human first. Writer second.

Every creative entrepreneur is trying to sell something. I believe there’s a way to do it without compromising your character or sounding fake. When you sell to your audience, you should sound like you. I firmly believe human-centric copy performs better than sales-centric copy. Anything I write starts with your audience in mind, not your revenue goals. If you’re authentic, your audience will feel it and the money will follow.

Inclusivity and Accessibility.

The wedding industry is WAY behind on equality and representation. The language you use is an important first step to creating an inclusive wedding business. I’m dedicated to helping wedding pros speak to everyone in their audience, regardless of race, gender, sexual orientation, religion, or ability. Everyone deserves to celebrate their love, and I fully support wedding pros who are doing the work to diversify representation in the industry.

Not everyone needs a writer.

You don’t need a professional copywriter to create your messaging for you (though I’m a total advocate for outsourcing when it’s right for you). If you can communicate with your clients, you can write your own copy. That’s why I offer a variety of done-with-you services, so you can learn how to improve your own copywriting skills – with an expert opinion, of course.

Comprehensive copy is queen.

Great messaging takes strategy. I work one-on-one with each of my clients to create a cohesive copywriting strategy that spans their entire business model. I often partner with wedding pros for multiple projects within their business. If you’re just looking for a freelancer to take on that one email or blog post you don’t have time to write, I'm not the copywriter for you.

Give more than you receive.

There is so much work to be done, and as a business owner, it’s my responsibility to use my platform to do good in the world. Each quarter, I choose a new organization that aligns with my personal and business values to donate to. Your business means the world to me, and I can’t think of a better way to say thank you than by giving back.

If you don’t make your pets your whole personality, we can’t be friends.

#sorrynotsorry. But seriously, how are you supposed to trust someone with your copy if you don’t know them? Here are a few VERY important things to know about me. (And way too many Shondaland references.)

My forever roommates: My husband Andre and our feline furbabies, Bennett and Enzo - yes, our cats are named after the most badass couple in the Vampire Diaries. Go ahead and judge me.

Heroes (real): Shonda Rhimes, Debbie Allen, Emma Watson, Kerry Washington

Heroes (fictional): Christina Yang, Olivia Pope, Angelica Schuyler, Eloise Bridgerton

Movies I can quote: My Cousin Vinny, The Wedding Date, Monsters Inc.

The one book I would save in a fire: My signed, 10-year anniversary edition of The Book Thief

People dead or alive I would love to have dinner with: F Scott Fitzgerald, Ruth Bader Ginsburg, Michelle Obama

Artists at the top of my playlist: Rihanna, Reneé Rapp, Beyonce, Taylor Swift (Taylor’s Version only), Khalid, the entire cast of Hamilton. Hitting shuffle on my phone is quite the experience.

If I could live anywhere in the world, I’d live here: Greece (I studied abroad and went on my honeymoon in Greece!)

Cocktail of choice: Raspberry mule. It was our signature drink at our wedding and guests LOVED IT. If I’m at a bar, it’s a vodka soda with lime.
